About us

Exceptional expertise in perovskite based tandem solar cells & advanced spectroscopy on perovskite films and devices

QYB – Quantum Yield Berlin GmbH is a Berlin based spin-off company of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin founded in early 2021. Our mission is making absolute luminescence analysis of semiconductors easily accessible for everyone. From 2018 on, we’ve started integrating our expertise in absolute photo- & electroluminescence measurements into a compact measurement system to bring this technology ready-to-use to other labs. After three years of development and fine-tuning, we’ve launched the LuQY Pro in summer 2021. Less than one year later, we have sold and delivered more than half a dozen systems worldwide, have established a manufacturing site and hired staff.

Our team with our excellent advisory board is a multi-disciplinary group of researchers from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, the Potsdam University, the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and the University of Oxford. In this unique constellation, we combine exceptional expertise in:

  • Perovskite based tandem solar cells
  • Advanced spectroscopy on perovskite films and devices
  • Absolute photo- & electroluminescence measurements (recombination loss analysis)

World record certified perovskite / silicon tandem solar cell efficiency

We have been frequently using and promoting absolute luminescence measurements throughout recent years. The method enormousely helped us to develop efficient solar cell materials and greatly accelerated the device development. In fact, absolute luminescence measurements were the key characterization technique enabling us to realize a world record certified perovskite / silicon tandem solar cell efficiency of 29.15% in January 2020 (also see Al-Ashouri et al., Science 2020)
